The snow fell softly, secure in its fragility;
Melting with me, trembling on my tongue.
Draped in a cold blanket of innocence
My heart is exposed.

Author's Comments

Written during yet another heavy snowfall. I wanted to play with the ambiguous nature of, well, nature.

God, I love snow.

I love this, and although it was short, this made a picture in my mind that still sends shivers down my spine.

Thankyou. I appreciate it, and I'm glad the imagery worked.

Ugh, yeah, It's beautiful, but it took me an hour to get to campus where it usually take 10 minutes the other day because of it, so I get where you're coming from.

Thankyou:)

Nice.

I like the parallel with you and the snow.

What is meant by "secure in its fragility"? Do you mean to contrast the security of the snow to your own feelings?

I love the snow too :)

ya...it's really hard to make such a short poem so effective. That's really impressive. I LOVE the contrast between "innocence" and "exposed"

Thankyou:)

I was watching the snow in its inevitable descent, so fragile, and yet so sure of its fate- to reach the ground and melt into the earth once again. In some ways it was a simple observation, but I found myself drawing a connection between the snow falling to the earth and our own inevitable descent, and wishing I could be so secure in my mortality. So yes, I was relating the snow to my own feelings. Not so much a contrast as a parallel connection.

I've also been reading a lot of Wordsworth and Keats and stuff lately, which was definately an influence, particularily the idea of human mortality in relation to nature, and the purity of nature (innocence vs. experience etc.).

Sorry, I went into a bit too much detail.

Thanks again:)

Thanks for the reply!

Yay for Wordsworth and Keats! (Two of my favorite poets)

Detail is good :)

Off topic: if you're ever in the mood, I'd be really grateful if you'd critique my work too.
